Class Groupings

Modified on Fri, 23 Aug at 1:17 PM

Grouping is a tool that allows you to divide your students into smaller, more manageable groups. This will allow facilitators to filter by class in the Gradebook and Export grades by Group.

To Setup Groups, navigate to Course Navigation > Participants > the Settings gear > Groups

From the Groups page, you can setup as many Groups as you need. In this example we will only be setting up 1 Group.

From here, name the new Group and Save changes.

Return to the Groups page to add users to your Groups.

  • Select the Group you wish to populate
  • Select the Add/remove users button.

You can select multiple users at once in a similar fashion to selecting multiple files on your computer's File Explorer (Windows) or Finder (Mac).

Select and hold down Shift to select a solid block, and hold Control (Windows) or Command (Mac) to add/ remove individual users from the selection.

Once you have the users you want to add to the Group, select the ◀ Add button, and they will move to the left. You can remove users similarly, by selecting users from the group, and selecting Remove ▶.

There is also a Search feature if you are having trouble finding a user.

You will now be able to see the Grouping in the Participants page. This is an alternate place to adjust Grouping, though it is less suited for bulk edits.

To edit a user's Group from the Participants page, select the pencil icon next to their group listing.

In this example we will be adjusting Student 3, who is not grouped, but you can adjust previously grouped users as well.

This will enable you to select a drop down to add the user to a group.

Note: This does not automatically remove any previously assigned groupings, which you can delete via the x next to the Group name an upcoming picture.

Once you have added the user to the group CLICK THE FLOPPY DISK ICON TO SAVE

If you have added a user to the incorrect Group, select the x next the the group name to remove them.

To view Groupings in the Gradebook, look for the Separate groups drop-down.

This will allow you to filter and just view the grades for any selected Grouping.
